Programmable Money: A Sovereignty Issue for Morocco
Programmable money and asset tokenization are a question of sovereignty for Morocco, not merely a technical innovation: by embedding rules and governance directly into financial infrastructure, tokenization reshapes who ultimately controls the system. The authors argue Morocco should build its own monetary infrastructure — a central bank digital currency or tokenized deposits — to preserve economic autonomy, improve payment efficiency, and deepen regional integration across Africa.
